In the early morning hours of September 11, 2015, Tehron Sims, a 27-year-old Black / African American male, was shot and killed inside his Wyandanch, New York, home. Suffolk County police responded to a 911 call at approximately 3:30 a.m. reporting the shooting on South 29th Street. Upon arrival, they found Sims, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, other individuals were present in the home but were unharmed.
Family members described Sims as a father who was actively trying to improve his life. He had recently celebrated the opening of his own clothing store in Deer Park and had just returned from a trip to Disneyland with his young son. His aunt, Shira Robinson, expressed the family's devastation, particularly the mother of his son. While his family painted a picture of a man turning his life around, official records indicated a past that included prison time for criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal contempt. Just two years prior to his death, Sims had been arrested and charged with shooting three people at a party, but that case was ultimately dismissed when a witness recanted their testimony and ballistics evidence did not link his weapon to the crime. He had been scheduled to appear in court on the very day of his murder on unrelated charges of aggravated driving without a license and misdemeanor heroin possession.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives launched an investigation. They stated that the shooting did not appear to be a random act, though the exact circumstances of how the shooter gained entry to the home were not immediately clear. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest, encouraging anonymous tips to be sent to Crime Stoppers. Despite these initial efforts, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the killing of Tehron Sims. The case, as far as public record shows, remains unsolved.
