On a summer night in the Bronx, 31-year-old Eric Oliver, a Black male, was fatally shot on June 11, 2016. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in front of an apartment building at 903 Rogers Place. When emergency medical services arrived, they found Oliver with a gunshot wound to his head and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Tragically, this was not the first time Oliver had been a victim of gun violence.
A previous shooting incident a decade earlier had left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Investigators at the time suggested that the fatal shooting may have been related to narcotics.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department announced that no arrests had been made, but their investigation was ongoing. Authorities did release a photograph of a person of interest they wished to question in connection with Oliver's death. The case was one of several homicides that occurred in the Bronx during what was described as a violent weekend. The public was asked to provide any information they might have regarding the shooting.
