Jaden Purvis, a 23-year-old male, was killed in the Norwood section of the Bronx in the first minutes of Monday, June 8, 2026, after gunfire erupted near East 207th Street and Decatur Avenue. Police were called to the intersection at about 12:08 a.m. for a report of an assault, and officers found Purvis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. EMS took him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators later said the shooting happened shortly before the 911 call, around 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, in front of 366 East 207th Street. According to police accounts reported by local outlets, two unidentified people approached, produced firearms, and shot Purvis multiple times before fleeing. The block was sealed off between Decatur Avenue and Parkside Place as detectives worked the scene, which was close to P.S. 56 and surrounded by homes and neighborhood businesses.
The scene left behind the kind of details that showed how sudden and violent the attack had been. A blood-stained sidewalk and more than a dozen evidence markers remained as investigators searched for clues. One neighbor told News 12 she heard what sounded like several shots, while parked cars nearby were also damaged by gunfire, including one vehicle whose owners said they found bullet holes in the windshield and bullets inside.
A witness account reported by Norwood News described young people coming upon Purvis lying face down in the street after hearing shots from farther down Decatur Avenue. They called police and waited for help to arrive. One of them said Purvis’s phone rang while they were there and believed the caller was his wife or partner, who became distraught after asking about him.
As of the available reports, no arrests had been announced. Police released images of two persons of interest and asked the public for help identifying them. Both were described as males dressed in black sweatshirts and black sweatpants; one was last seen wearing a blue medical mask, while the other was last seen wearing a black face mask. A police source also told Norwood News that investigators were looking for two males who fled the location in a black BMW sedan northbound on Parkside Place, though police later said the two fled on foot to parts unknown.
The motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting were not known in the public reports. Investigators continued treating the case as an active homicide investigation, with the NYPD asking anyone who recognized the two persons of interest or knew what happened near East 207th Street and Decatur Avenue to contact Crime Stoppers.
