In the summer of 2016, a young man's attempt to leave his troubled past behind was tragically cut short on a street in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Andre Lane, a 26-year-old male, was found with gunshot wounds to his stomach and arm inside an apartment building on Ralph Avenue on the night of June 15, 2016. Emergency responders rushed him to Kings County Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. The shooting occurred just a couple of blocks from his home.
