In the summer of 2016, a long-running drug enterprise in the Bronx culminated in the death of 46-year-old Jerome Jemison. On August 11th, in the middle of the day, Jemison was fatally shot in the back of the head on the third-floor landing of an apartment building at 868 Faile Street in the Hunts Point neighborhood. The act was not a random burst of violence, but rather the grim resolution of a drug debt.
For years, the building where Jemison lost his life had been the epicenter of a
crack cocaine and heroin distribution ring. The operation was allegedly controlled by Bruce Morris, a man also known by the street name 'G.' Morris utilized threats and acts of violence to maintain his grip on the drug trade within the building, even menacing the building's superintendent with a firearm on one occasion to protect his illicit activities. It was within this environment of fear and control that the dispute over a drug debt escalated, leading to Jemison's murder.
The investigation into Jerome Jemison's death continued for years. It wasn't until nearly eight years after the fatal shooting that a significant breakthrough occurred. In June 2024, Bruce Morris was arrested and federally charged with murder through the use of a firearm and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. The indictment marked a long-awaited step towards justice for Jemison and his loved ones.
In January 2025, a jury found Bruce Morris guilty of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and heroin, as well as firearms offenses related to the drug conspiracy. Following his conviction, a judge also determined that Morris was responsible for Jemison's murder. On August 4, 2025, Morris, then 43 years old, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for his crimes, including the 2016 murder of Jerome Jemison. In addition to his prison term, he was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
