In the Bronx, a dispute inside a bodega escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 43-year-old Joseph Michael Ramirez on September 5, 2021. The male victim was inside a deli on E. 198th St. and Valentine Ave. in the Kingsbridge Heights section when an argument erupted.
The verbal confrontation moved outside the store, where it took a deadly turn. The suspect, later identified as Talee Otero, allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Ramirez.
The gunman then fled the scene, leaving Ramirez gravely wounded. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved.
An investigation into the shooting led police to identify Talee Otero as the primary suspect. Approximately a month after the incident, on October 7, 2021, the NYPD’s Bronx Violent Felony Squad and the U.S. Marshals’ New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Otero. He was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Joseph Michael Ramirez.
