In the early morning hours of May 6, 2023, a dispute that began inside a Bronx club spilled out onto the street, leaving 28-year-old Adama Camara dead. The male victim was discovered by police at approximately 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of East 139th Street and Morris Avenue in the Mott Haven neighborhood. He was found unconscious and unresponsive on the ground, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced Camara deceased.
Investigators determined that prior to the shooting, Camara had been engaged in a heated argument over money with another man at a nearby club. This altercation escalated and moved outside, tragically culminating in the shooting. An investigation into the homicide led police to identify a suspect in the killing.
On May 24, 2023, authorities arrested 36-year-old Damian Stapleton in connection with Camara's death. At the time of the incident, Stapleton was reportedly out on bail for a separate, previous gun possession charge from the prior December. Following his arrest for the shooting, Stapleton was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a loaded firearm. Reports indicated that both Camara and Stapleton had prior arrest records, with Camara's including robbery and assault.
