In a tragic turn of events stemming from a dispute that reportedly began on social media, 33-year-old Jeremy Little, a male resident of Rossville, Georgia, was fatally shot on March 8, 2017. The incident unfolded in the yard of his State Line Road home.
The conflict, which initially simmered online, escalated tragically, leading to a confrontation. The man identified as the shooter, Robert W. Ellis, 44, was reportedly a friend of Little. Initial reports suggested the fatal disagreement was sparked by a Facebook post or discussion. Later information indicated the motive may have been a case of mistaken identity involving a woman, which then led to property damage before the deadly shooting.
On that Wednesday afternoon, Ellis allegedly shot Little in the head. Little was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. In a surprising development, Ellis turned himself in to authorities a few hours after the shooting.
Following an investigation by Walker County sheriff's detectives and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Robert W. Ellis was arrested and faced a series of charges, including murder, assault, property damage, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In June 2018, a Walker County jury found Robert William Ellis guilty of malice murder in connection with the shooting death of Jeremy Little. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Ellis later appealed his conviction, arguing that his custodial statement should have been suppressed because he was intoxicated when he waived his Miranda rights. However, on August 10, 2021, the Georgia Supreme Court affirmed the conviction, ensuring that Ellis would serve his life sentence for the murder of Jeremy Little.
