In the quiet community of Rossville, Georgia, a domestic dispute shattered the peace on December 9, 2018, culminating in the tragic death of 70-year-old Somvang Vorachak. A Laotian man who had made the United States his home for over twenty years, Vorachak was a familiar face in the area and an employee at Shaw Industries. His life was abruptly ended by a gunshot wound to the chest inside his residence on Steele Road.
The events of that Sunday morning unfolded after a heated argument between Vorachak and his 37-year-old nephew, Bounmy Manhrasamy, who also lived at the Steele Road home. The disagreement escalated to a fatal point when Manhrasamy shot his uncle. A 911 call reporting the shooting brought deputies to the scene, where they found Manhrasamy exiting the house and surrendering to the authorities.
Inside the home, law enforcement discovered Somvang Vorachak with the fatal gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to render aid, he succumbed to his injury. Bounmy Manhrasamy was taken into custody without incident.
Following the investigation into the shooting, Bounmy Manhrasamy was arrested and faced serious charges for the death of his uncle. He was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. After his arrest, he was held without bond at the Catoosa County Jail to await his first court appearance.
