On September 21, 2023, at approximately 5:32 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to reports of a shooting at the SoCo Park Apartment Homes, located at 7201 South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered 32-year-old Juan Davila in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Davila was pronounced deceased at the scene by 5:45 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a road rage encounter between Davila and another male individual. The confrontation escalated in the apartment complex's parking lot, where Davila reportedly brandished a handgun. In response, the other individual involved discharged his firearm, fatally wounding Davila. The shooter has been identified by authorities; however, no charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.
APD's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists conducted a thorough examination of the scene and interviewed witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.
