In the Bronx, a verbal dispute on a summer night escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 31-year-old James Thrower. The incident occurred on Friday, July 15, 2022, just before midnight, in front of 907 Teller Avenue.
According to police reports, an argument broke out between Thrower and another individual. The confrontation quickly turned violent when the other person pulled out a firearm and shot Thrower multiple times in the torso.
The gunman then fled the scene, heading eastbound on East 161st Street.
Law enforcement responded to a ShotSpotter activation at the corner of East 162nd Street and Teller Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Thrower unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency medical services transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln, where he was pronounced deceased.
An investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 29-year-old Diquinn Lacend of the Bronx. Lacend was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
