In the early morning hours of October 19, 2014, the life of 17-year-old Jazzmine Rembert, a Black female, was tragically cut short in a basement in Waterloo, Iowa. Police responded to a call just before 2:00 a.m. and found Rembert unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
