In the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, a young man's life was cut tragically short on a Sunday afternoon. Deshonne Mitchell, a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot on December 18, 2016, just steps away from his own home on East 52nd Street. The incident occurred inside a nearby apartment building at 136 E. 52nd St., shattering the relative calm of the weekend.
Police received a call around 3:30 p.m. reporting that a person had been shot.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered Deshonne Mitchell with a gunshot wound to his back. Paramedics rushed him to Kings County Hospital in an effort to save his life, but his injury proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The nature of his wound suggests he may have been a vulnerable and unsuspecting victim in his final moments.
