investigation into the shooting led the New York Police Department to 41-year-old Hason Rink, who was arrested on July 28, 2020. During his interrogation, Rink not only confessed to the murder of Deondraye Moore but also admitted to another killing. He revealed to investigators that he had been paid $2,000 to kill Moore in a murder-for-hire plot. The motive behind the contract on Moore's life was not definitively stated, but it was suggested to be connected to a prior dispute involving a third party. Rink's confessions brought to light the extent of his violent acts. He also admitted to the July 24, 2020, murder of Ancil Blackman in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Rink claimed he targeted Blackman due to a personal conflict. For his crimes, Hason Rink was charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapon possession and was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court. His arrest and confessions brought a semblance of closure to the families of his victims, though the community remained shaken by the senseless violence that had unfolded on their streets.
