Death by Force

On April 17, 2023, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Nelson Ortiz, a 24-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, was fatally shot in front of the Midway Deli and Grill on Avenue L near East 95th Street in the Canarsie neighborhood. Ortiz, who lived about a block away from the scene, sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso. Emergency responders transported him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
