On the evening of June 7, 2018, the life of 25-year-old Devin Allen-Furtick was tragically cut short on Roycroft Drive in Rochester, New York. Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 10 p.m. and discovered Allen-Furtick lying in the road with at least one gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Rochester Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation, cordoning off the area around Roycroft Drive
and Carter Street to gather evidence. Their investigation soon led them to a suspect, Demetrie Holloway, a 36-year-old resident of Rochester. Investigators revealed that Allen-Furtick and Holloway were acquainted with each other, a detail that provided a crucial lead in the case.
Less than three weeks after the shooting, on June 26, 2018, authorities arrested Holloway and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Allen-Furtick's death. Holloway was taken into custody without incident and subsequently arraigned in Rochester City Court, where he pleaded not guilty. He was then remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail to await further legal proceedings. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in the Rochester community and left friends and family to mourn the loss of a young man known for his funny, caring, and smart personality.
