In the summer of 2023, a party on Genesee Street in Rochester, New York, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of a young man. On the night of June 11th, 21-year-old Anthony Bonilla was attending a gathering when he was shot in the upper body. First responders rushed him to Strong Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them the following day.
The investigation into the shooting painted a grim picture of a
targeted attack. Police alleged that 17-year-old Richard Crowder Jr. arrived at the party in a stolen vehicle with the specific intention of finding Bonilla. It is believed the shooting was an act of retaliation for a previous dispute involving associates of both individuals. After locating Bonilla at the party, Crowder allegedly shot him. This act led to an intensive investigation by the Rochester Police Department as they worked to bring justice for Bonilla and his grieving family.
Two months later, on August 16, 2023, authorities arrested Richard Crowder Jr. in connection with the death of Anthony Bonilla. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. At the time of his arrest, two other individuals were in the vehicle with him and were also taken into custody on unrelated charges. The investigation into Crowder and his associates continued, leading to further arrests and the recovery of an illegal firearm, revealing a wider circle of criminal activity.
