In the late hours of a summer night in the Bronx, tragedy befell 31-year-old Jamarr Vestal, a Black/African American man whose life was cut short by gunfire on August 15, 2019. The incident occurred near the Horseshoe Playground on Hall Place, a place meant for recreation and community, but which on this night became a scene of violence. Around midnight, the sound of gunshots pierced the air, and when police arrived, they discovered Vestal suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
