On a summer evening in the Bronx, the life of 32-year-old Ronnell Garmie, a male, was abruptly cut short. On August 3, 2021, at approximately 8:13 p.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a person shot in the Fordham Heights neighborhood. Officers arrived at the scene in front of an apartment building at 2335 Tiebout Avenue to find Garmie unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location and
quickly transported Garmie to St. Barnabas Hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department's 46th Precinct began an investigation, but no immediate arrests were made, and the motive for the shooting was not initially clear.
The investigation into Ronnell Garmie's death continued for several months. Then, on November 2, 2021, a breakthrough in the case led to an arrest. Arys Rodriguez, a 21-year-old resident of the Bronx, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Rodriguez was subsequently charged with murder.
