On December 5, 2024, at approximately 3:34 p.m., NYPD officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at 688 East 223rd Street in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. Upon arrival, they found 36-year-old Staten Island resident, Melquan Johnson, with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services transported Johnson to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
