A young man's life was tragically cut short in the early morning hours of a summer weekend in the Bronx. Almame Drammeh, a 20-year-old male who had immigrated from West Africa just two years prior, was caught in the crossfire of a dispute that was not his own. On Saturday, August 22, 2015, Drammeh was attending a party on Valentine Avenue in the Bedford Park neighborhood when gunshots erupted.
He was struck by the gunfire, as was another 36-year-old man who was also at the gathering.
The party, reportedly held in an illegal social club, became a scene of chaos and violence. An argument between other individuals escalated, leading a male suspect to draw a weapon and fire. Drammeh, who was not the intended target, was gravely wounded. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before ultimately succumbing to his injuries on Monday, August 24, 2015. The other man who was shot survived his wounds.
In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation and sought help from the public to identify those responsible for Almame Drammeh's death. Investigators released photographs of a man they identified as the suspect, as well as a woman who was with him at the time of the incident. While the woman was not named as a suspect, police believed she had important information that could lead to an arrest. Despite these efforts, the case has grown cold over the years. There have been no public announcements of any arrests made in connection with the murder, leaving the death of Almame Drammeh an unsolved homicide.
