On a summer evening in Brooklyn, New York, 30-year-old Andrew Grafal’s life was tragically cut short. On June 23, 2020, in the courtyard of the Williamsburg Houses, a public housing project, Grafal was fatally shot in the chest and abdomen. Though wounded, he was able to tell responding officers he had been shot.
Initial reports suggested a confrontation with three men on motorcycles who quickly fled the scene.
However, Grafal's sister, Julissa, believes the men on the motorcycles were his friends. According to her, the incident began when someone attempted to snatch a chain from her brother's neck. When Andrew tried to get away, the assailant opened fire. She stated that his friends on the motorcycles then chased after the shooter but were unable to catch him.
Described by friends and neighbors as a friendly and outgoing person, Andrew was a frequent visitor to the Williamsburg Houses and was well-liked within the community. In the wake of his death, his family has actively sought justice, organizing memorials and community events to bring attention to his unsolved case and to pressure law enforcement to find his killer.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with Andrew Grafal's murder. The lack of clear identification of the assailant has made the investigation challenging, leaving his family and the community awaiting answers and the perpetrator still at large. The police continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
