On a summer afternoon in Brooklyn, a dispute outside a scooter shop turned deadly, claiming the life of 23-year-old Nicholas Isaac. The incident occurred on July 18, 2020, in front of a bike and scooter shop on Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights. An argument between Isaac and another man escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Isaac, a resident of Clinton Hill, was shot multiple times in the legs and torso.
According to reports, the conflict began as a verbal altercation.
Isaac reportedly ran into the shop to seek cover as the gunman opened fire. The assailant followed him inside, continuing to shoot as Isaac tried to flee. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on a black scooter. Emergency services transported Isaac to Kings County Hospital, where he underwent surgery but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
For three years, the case remained unresolved, causing anguish for Isaac's family and friends who remembered him as a creative and beloved individual involved in community arts programs. The New York Police Department initially described the suspect as a man approximately 6'0' tall, last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black shirt, black pants, and black shoes, and carrying a blue backpack.
A significant break in the case came in August 2023 when a suspect was apprehended in Cleveland, Ohio. The U.S. Marshals Service's Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force arrested 64-year-old Robert Bryson. Bryson, a former Brooklyn resident, was extradited to Brooklyn to face charges. In September 2023, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office announced that Bryson had been arraigned on an indictment charging him with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was ordered to be held without bail.
