In the early morning hours of a summer Sunday in the Bronx, the life of 40-year-old Edward Campbell was brought to a violent and tragic end. On June 6, 2021, at approximately 2:14 a.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting inside a building on Tiebout Avenue in the Fordham Heights neighborhood. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Campbell unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained a gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency medical services rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but his injury proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the death of Edward Campbell, a male resident of the very building where he was killed, unfolded over the following months, leading to a series of arrests. The New York Police Department identified and apprehended multiple individuals believed to be connected to the fatal shooting. The first arrest came just days after the incident, on June 9, when Marlon Gardner, 23, of New Rochelle, was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, burglary, and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
The case continued to develop as more suspects were identified. On June 14, police arrested 23-year-old Brian Gibbs of New Rochelle and 20-year-old Fatimah Adegoke of Yonkers. Both faced charges of murder, manslaughter, and robbery, with Gibbs also being charged with burglary and criminal possession of a weapon, and Adegoke with criminal possession of a weapon. Later that month, on June 29, 18-year-old Jonathan Gomez of Yonkers was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon. The final arrest in connection with Campbell's death occurred on December 28, when 32-year-old Eddy Taveras of Yonkers was apprehended. Taveras faced charges of murder, robbery, burglary, conspiracy, and criminal possession of a weapon.
