In the quiet community of San Tan Valley, Arizona, a devastating incident unfolded, leaving a family shattered and a neighborhood in disbelief. On the morning of April 14, 2021, the life of 56-year-old Gladis Mophecha was tragically cut short in what should have been the safety of her own home on West Allens Peak Drive.
A friend of Gladis made the harrowing discovery, finding her deceased inside the residence.
When Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the scene around 10:00 a.m., they were met with a somber and disturbing situation. The investigation into her death quickly transitioned into a homicide case, with a suspect identified within the home.
Present at the residence was Gladis's adult son, 29-year-old Taboh Mopecha. He was promptly identified as the suspect in his mother's death. Taboh was taken into custody and arrested on charges of first-degree murder. At the time of his arrest, he also had outstanding warrants.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, law enforcement officials reached out to the community for assistance. They requested that residents in the vicinity check their home security cameras for any footage that might show the suspect. Specifically, they were looking for a Black male, described as 5'9', who may have been seen in the area either on foot or riding a black mountain bike with thin tires between the afternoon of April 13th and the morning of April 14th. The investigation into the heart-wrenching death of Gladis Mophecha remains a somber reminder of a life lost too soon.
