In the spring of 2016, a domestic dispute in Phoenix, Arizona, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 41-year-old Mercy Cordova. A White/Caucasian woman, Cordova was fatally shot by her boyfriend, 43-year-old Francis Clark, on May 14, 2016. The violent encounter unfolded at Clark's apartment, situated near 37th Avenue and McDowell Road.
The events of that day began to unravel with a series of frantic 911 calls.
Several people reported witnessing a man armed with a gun chasing a woman, who was later identified as Mercy Cordova. Police were dispatched to the scene, but by the time they arrived, Cordova had already been shot and killed by Clark.
Upon their arrival, officers were confronted by Francis Clark, who immediately turned his aggression towards them. A shootout ensued between Clark and the police. In the exchange of gunfire, Clark was shot and killed by the officers. Two police officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Investigators later confirmed that the initial gunshots reported by neighbors were from Clark shooting and killing his girlfriend. The incident was the culmination of a domestic dispute between the couple. With both Mercy Cordova and the suspect, Francis Clark, deceased at the scene, the case was considered solved.
