In the winter of 2022, just days after Thanksgiving, the life of 37-year-old Jaime Bryant was tragically cut short in her West Phoenix home. On the afternoon of November 30th, police were called to a residence near 67th Avenue and Cypress Street, where they discovered Bryant with a fatal gunshot wound. She was a mother to three young children.

The investigation into the death of the Caucasian female quickly focused on her longtime boyfriend, Jesse James Moreno. Moreno, who was 35 at the time, was arrested and accused of his girlfriend's murder. His criminal history revealed a prior conviction for discharging a gun at a structure, for which he had been released from the Arizona Department of Corrections in February 2021. Only a month before Bryant’s death, Moreno had been arraigned on felony drug charges.

The case took a turn that left Bryant’s loved ones feeling that justice had been cheated. Instead of proceeding to a trial where he could have faced a much longer sentence, Moreno accepted a plea deal. He pleaded 'no contest' to the murder, a plea that accepts the conviction without admitting guilt. This agreement resulted in a 16-year prison sentence for taking the life of Jaime Bryant. The resolution brought a painful chapter to a close for a family that had been irrevocably broken by the violent loss of a mother, daughter, and friend.
