In the winter of 2025, the life of 39-year-old Katherine Cervantez was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. On the evening of December 17th, police responded to a call near 12th Street and Mountain View Road around 7:10 p.m. and discovered Cervantez in the back seat of a car, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she did not survive.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her
21-year-old boyfriend, Victor Giron. According to court documents, the couple had only been dating for two weeks, a period marked by frequent arguments. Cervantez had confided in a friend that Giron had assaulted her, and the friend had also observed that Giron was in possession of a gun. The day of the shooting, the couple had been asked to leave the friend's home after a fight.
Later that day, Giron returned to the friend's home, asking for help and admitting that he may have shot Cervantez. The friend refused to assist unless Giron surrendered his weapon. Authorities were then contacted, leading to the discovery of the wounded Cervantez. Security camera footage captured the couple about an hour before the fatal shooting.
Victor Giron was arrested about two hours away from the scene, heading south near Ajo, Arizona. He is now facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. A judge has set his bond at $1 million in cash.
