In the waning hours of Halloween evening, a domestic dispute in a west Phoenix home escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 50-year-old Shondra Lynn Pregler. On October 31, 2025, Phoenix police responded to a call about a shooting at a residence near 91st Avenue and Indianola Avenue at approximately 5:12 p.m. Upon entering the home, officers discovered both Shondra and her 55-year-old husband, David Theodore Pregler, suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
Both Shondra and her
husband were immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Shondra Lynn Pregler succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Her husband underwent emergency surgery and remained hospitalized for his injuries.
Following his release from the hospital, David Pregler was taken into custody by law enforcement. He now faces charges of second-degree murder and illegal weapons possession, as he is a convicted felon and was prohibited from owning firearms. Court documents revealed that during an interview, David Pregler stated that both he and his wife had been using meth on the day of the fatal shooting and that they had been involved in previous arguments. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond awaiting his court dates.
