In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in north Phoenix, the bustling Desert Ridge Marketplace became the backdrop for a tragedy. It was there, on June 18, 2025, that 39-year-old Jessica Shukers, a female, lost her life in a violent encounter. Police were called to the shopping center's parking lot near the AMC movie theater around 9:40 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jessica with at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, her 38-year-old ex-husband Justin Alan Creed, was still present when law enforcement arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Investigators have classified the case as a domestic violence homicide, noting that the two had been previously married and were divorced at the time of the shooting. Creed was subsequently questioned by detectives and later booked into jail on one count of murder.
In the wake of the incident, Jessica Shukers' sister released a statement describing her as a 'beautiful, compassionate person whom had a wonderful life ahead of her.' She also acknowledged the suspect's personal struggles, mentioning that he is a veteran who has dealt with PTSD for many years. The investigation into the specific circumstances that led to the fatal shooting is ongoing.
