On a Friday evening in the Bronx, the life of 28-year-old Dennis Neal was tragically cut short. On September 3, 2021, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Neal was shot in the chest in front of an apartment building at the Edenwald Houses on East 229th Drive South. First responders rushed him to Montefiore Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene described seeing a man dressed in all black with Nike sneakers fleeing after the sound of gunshots.
The motive for the shooting remained a mystery to investigators in the immediate aftermath. The New York Police Department's 47th Precinct began an investigation into the homicide.
Weeks later, on October 27, 2021, authorities made an arrest in connection with Neal's death. A 17-year-old male, whose name was not released due to his age, was taken into custody in the early morning hours. He was subsequently charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The case against the teenage suspect is pending in court.
