On a Wednesday afternoon in the Bronx, just before 5 p.m. on April 23, 2025, Marji Daoud, a 28-year-old male from Yonkers, was fatally shot in the head. The incident occurred on University Avenue in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood. Daoud had reportedly just returned to his car after visiting a friend when gunfire erupted. Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots and seeing Daoud fall to the ground in front of a candy and grocery store. He was rushed to St.
Barnabas Hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
During the chaotic event, a 33-year-old woman was also struck by a bullet, sustaining a gunshot wound to her left hip. She was transported by private means to Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, where she was listed in stable condition. Law enforcement officials believe that neither Daoud nor the woman were the intended targets of the shooting. Police sources indicated that the gunmen may have been aiming for a group of people standing in front of the store.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of several suspects. Initial reports described four individuals wearing dark sweatsuits and ski masks fleeing the scene. Surveillance video of the incident was recovered by police. In the weeks that followed, the New York Police Department made significant progress in the case.
In late May and early June 2025, two 13-year-old boys were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Due to their ages, their names have not been publicly released. Both teenagers have been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal use of a firearm. The motive for the shooting has not been disclosed as the investigation remains ongoing.
