Tysheem Ceruti, 27, was shot to death just after midnight on September 7, 2021, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. In the still hours around 12:30 a.m., gunfire erupted on Putnam Avenue outside a multi-family residence; when officers arrived, they found him suffering multiple wounds to the groin, arm, and chest. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but he died a short time later.
A second man was also struck in the violence, shot in the elbow and leg and taken to Interfaith Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Early information from police and local reporting described the scene as the aftermath of a dispute that had unfolded shortly before the shots were fired, but in the first hours there was no description of the shooter and no immediate arrests.
As the investigation pushed forward, police later identified Nicholas Seabrook as the suspected gunman. Reports stated that Seabrook was arrested in January 2022 and charged with murder along with gun-possession charges connected to Ceruti’s killing.
In the weeks and months after the shooting, the case took on added complications tied to the exchange of gunfire that night. Reporting later described the surviving victim as having returned fire during the encounter, and authorities subsequently charged him with offenses including criminal possession of a loaded firearm and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident.
