In the early morning hours of August 15, 2020, tragedy struck in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn when 32-year-old Jamel Copeland was fatally shot. The incident occurred at the corner of Avenue D and East 39th Street. Responding to the scene, police discovered Copeland with a single gunshot wound to his torso. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting of Jamel Copeland, a
father, led detectives from the 67th Precinct to identify a suspect. Law enforcement began looking into the possibility that a former girlfriend was involved. Their investigation culminated in the arrest of 34-year-old Charlene Morris of Queens.
Following her arrest, Charlene Morris was charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with Jamel Copeland's death. The motive behind the shooting was investigated, with reports suggesting a possible domestic dispute.
