In the early morning hours of August 15, 2020, tragedy struck in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn when 32-year-old Jamel Copeland was fatally shot. The incident occurred at the corner of Avenue D and East 39th Street. Responding to the scene, police discovered Copeland with a single gunshot wound to his torso. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
