In the quiet community of Stone Mountain, Georgia, the life of 48-year-old Theodore 'Theo' Moore was tragically cut short on a Monday morning in September 2017. A newlywed of only two months, Moore had just returned home from his routine morning walk with his dog when he was confronted by two men. The assailants forced their way into his residence on Ridge Forest Drive, setting in motion a violent home invasion.
Inside the house, the intruders' primary motive appeared to be robbery.
They shot and killed Moore, and then located his husband, whom they bound and confined to a closet. For the next hour and a half, the two men methodically ransacked the home, taking their time in a manner that police later described as unusual. They stole several televisions and other valuables before making their escape in Moore's own vehicle. After the perpetrators left, Moore's husband managed to free himself from the closet and immediately called for help. Police later discovered the stolen car abandoned just a few blocks from the crime scene. An earlier attempted break-in had prompted Moore to install a surveillance system, which ultimately captured images of the men involved in his murder.
The investigation into the senseless killing led authorities to a suspect living just a few houses down the street from Moore. In early October, approximately two weeks after the murder, 26-year-old Abdul Crawford was apprehended by U.S. Marshals at a relative's home in Durham, North Carolina. Warrants revealed that Crawford was accused of being one of the two men who entered Moore's home. Details from the investigation suggested a harrowing ordeal where Moore was shot, and his husband was forced to an ATM before being tied up. While Crawford was taken into custody and awaited extradition, the second suspect involved in the fatal home invasion remained unidentified by authorities.
