In the late summer of 2021, the community of Poughkeepsie, New York, was struck by the unexpected death of Kyle Van De Water, a 41-year-old male who had become a recognizable figure in the region through his military service and political ambitions. His passing on September 7, 2021, left behind a wife and four children.
Reports from that time indicate that police responded to a call about a 'man down' at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Upon arrival, they discovered Van De Water.
First responders attempted to save his life, and he was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was determined to be a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding his death, ultimately concluding that it was a suicide. Consequently, there were no arrests made, and no suspects were identified in connection with the incident. The news of his death came less than two weeks after he had announced the end of his second campaign for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Van De Water was an Army veteran who had served in Afghanistan.
