Troy Le, an 18-year-old student from San Diego, went missing on March 20, 2010, while visiting Torrey Pine Beach with his girlfriend. During their time at the beach, his girlfriend encountered difficulties in the water, prompting Troy to enter the ocean with a boogie board in an attempt to rescue her. Unfortunately, both were swept up by a riptide. Although his girlfriend was rescued by lifeguards and survived, Troy was pulled out to sea and did not resurface.
Despite an extensive search, Troy’s body was never recovered. At the time of his disappearance, he was a kinesiology student at San Diego Mesa College and a recent graduate of Mission Bay Senior High School. His family and friends have since remembered him as a hero for his efforts to save his girlfriend. Authorities have presumed that Troy drowned due to the strong currents at the beach, although his remains have not been found.
