On the early evening of Friday, October 3, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, New York, 22-year-old Gabrial Mosca was riding his bicycle at the corner of Main and Garden streets. The routine rhythm of the downtown area was abruptly shattered just after 5:20 p.m. by a burst of gunfire that sent pedestrians scrambling for cover. When police arrived at the scene, they found Mosca suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department immediately launched an intensive investigation into the daylight shooting. Detectives and crime scene technicians cordoned off the area for hours, meticulously documenting evidence and canvassing local storefronts for any information or surveillance footage that could shed light on the tragic event. A witness reported seeing two people running from the scene shortly after the shots were fired. As word of the incident spread, a sense of shock and grief rippled through the community, particularly in the nearby town of Hyde Park, where Gabrial Mosca resided.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect. On October 16, 2025, with the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the United States Marshals Service, 18-year-old Anthony D. Taylor of Poughkeepsie was apprehended in Maryland. Taylor was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Following his arrest, he was extradited back to Dutchess County, New York, to face the charges against him. He was transported to the Dutchess County Jail to await arraignment in court.
