In the early hours of Easter Sunday, a day typically marked by renewal and celebration, the life of Cain Smalls, a 29-year-old Black man from Poughkeepsie, New York, was tragically cut short. On April 17, 2022, at approximately 3:56 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet outside Noah's Ark, a neighborhood bar located at 135 Mill Street.
When officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Smalls with a serious gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency services rushed Cain Smalls to the nearby Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Medical staff performed emergency surgery in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe.
