In the early morning hours of May 13, 2023, the life of 19-year-old Thomas Jayden Galimore-Rhodes, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Poughkeepsie, New York. At approximately 2:06 a.m., he was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds near the historic Soldiers Fountain at the intersection of Market and Montgomery Streets. Emergency services rushed him to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, but despite the efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries during
surgery.
Born on January 16, 2004, to Veronica Galimore and Thomas Rhodes, 'Jayden,' as he was known, was a young man with his life ahead of him. He had previously been a student at Beacon High School. His sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his family and friends to grapple with an immeasurable loss. An autopsy conducted two days after the shooting confirmed that the cause of his death was the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained.
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, with assistance from the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, immediately launched a homicide investigation into Galimore-Rhodes's death. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the shooting. However, despite the ongoing investigation and public appeals for assistance, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into the death of Thomas Jayden Galimore-Rhodes remains active as his loved ones continue to await justice.
