In the winter of 2018, the life of 35-year-old Noel McClinton was tragically cut short in a shooting in Poughkeepsie, New York. A male resident of the city, McClinton was fatally wounded on the evening of January 27th. The incident that led to his death unfolded in front of the Fireman's Exempt Social Club located on Mansion Street.
The initial investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police pointed to a suspect who had fled the scene.
For months, law enforcement actively searched for the man they believed to be responsible for McClinton's death. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI's Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force and the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, who dedicated significant resources to locate the suspect. Authorities believed the suspect had fled to North Carolina and made several attempts to find him there.
The search for the primary suspect, identified as 38-year-old Robert Whitaker, concluded in October of that year. Accompanied by his lawyer, Whitaker surrendered to the City of Poughkeepsie Police. Following his surrender, he was arrested and subsequently faced a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Noel McClinton. He was arraigned and then remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
