In the early morning hours of December 17, 2021, a violent altercation in a Bronx apartment building hallway left 33-year-old Anthony Laster dead. Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:12 a.m. at 1221 Sheridan Avenue in the Concourse neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered Laster unconscious and unresponsive on the first floor, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head, back, and left arm, as well as slash wounds to his head and back.
Emergency medical services transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced deceased. Laster lived in the same neighborhood but not in the building where the attack occurred.
The investigation into the homicide led police to Rashaan Davis, the 36-year-old brother of Laster's girlfriend. The dispute that ended in Laster's death reportedly began when Davis accused Laster of disrespecting his sister. This argument escalated dramatically, resulting in Davis allegedly shooting and slashing Laster before fleeing the scene. Police also indicated that Davis took some of Laster's property after the attack.
On March 8, 2022, authorities arrested Rashaan Davis in connection with the killing. He was charged with murder, robbery, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Prior to this arrest, Davis had no criminal record.
