John L. Sligh, aged 43, tragically lost his life on April 13, 1975, in a shooting incident in Wheaton, Maryland, a neighboring area of Silver Spring. On that fateful day, Michael Edward Pearch opened fire in downtown Wheaton, targeting African-American individuals. The shooting spree resulted in the deaths of John L. Sligh and Connie Stanley, aged 52. Additionally, four other individuals were wounded: Laureen D. Sligh, Harold S. Navy Jr., Rosalyn Stanley, and Bryant Lamont Williams.
