On a Labor Day morning, the community of Silver Spring, Maryland, was shaken by a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 34-year-old Jamar Emmanuel Jenifer, a male resident of Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on September 2, 2024, in an alley located in the 8000 block of 13th Street. Montgomery County Police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 9:42 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Jenifer suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders to provide life-saving measures, Jenifer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led detectives to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. Four days after the incident, on Friday, September 6, 2024, an arrest was made in connection with the case. Authorities took 33-year-old Silver Spring resident Jeriel Demitri Martin into custody. The arrest followed the execution of a search and seizure warrant at Martin's residence, where investigators reported finding evidence linking him to Jenifer's murder.
Following his arrest, Jeriel Demitri Martin was charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or violent crime. He was subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond. The investigation into the death of Jamar Emmanuel Jenifer is noted to be ongoing.
