In the early hours of May 12, 2011, Abebayheu Jagiso, a 49-year-old man of Ethiopian descent, was working his shift as a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Fort Washington, Maryland. The overnight quiet was shattered when two masked individuals entered the convenience store in what appeared to be an armed robbery. During the commission of the crime, Jagiso was shot.
Prince George's County police officers responded to a call for a shooting at the 7-Eleven located on Oxon Hill Road.
Upon arrival, they found Abebayheu Jagiso suffering from a gunshot wound. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another employee who was present during the robbery was not injured in the incident.
Investigators immediately began to piece together the events of that fatal morning. They retrieved surveillance footage from the store's security cameras which captured the two masked suspects during the robbery. Despite the video evidence, the identities of the individuals responsible for the death of Abebayheu Jagiso have remained elusive.
