In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 3, 2016, the quiet of a Fort Washington, Maryland neighborhood was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 33-year-old Larry Ellis Jr. of Clinton. Prince George's County Police officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Kilbourne Drive for a welfare check shortly before 5 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ellis outside, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the male victim moved swiftly as detectives began to piece together the events of that fatal morning. It was quickly determined that Ellis was acquainted with his assailants and that the motive for the deadly encounter was robbery. The suspects were identified as 29-year-old Tyron Taylor of Fort Washington and 25-year-old James Baskins of Northwest Washington.
By Sunday evening, a significant breakthrough came in the case as both Taylor and Baskins were located and taken into custody in Fort Washington. The two men were subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, in connection with the shooting death of Larry Ellis Jr.
