In the late morning of May 24, 2017, a dispute shattered the quiet of a Fort Washington, Maryland neighborhood. Twenty-four-year-old Timothy Harris was found lying in the roadway on Asbury Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Emergency services were called to the scene around 10:40 a.m., and Harris was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The male victim's life was cut short in what police would soon describe as a drug-related conflict.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and patrol officers made an arrest shortly after the incident. The suspect was identified as nineteen-year-old Xavier Johnson of Upper Marlboro. Authorities believe that just before the fatal shooting, Johnson and Harris were involved in a dispute over drugs. The conflict escalated to a deadly confrontation that left Harris fatally wounded in the street.
Following his arrest, Xavier Johnson was charged with both first and second-degree murder in connection with the death of Timothy Harris. He was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
