In the early morning hours of November 5, 2015, the life of 39-year-old Edson Keister of Bowie, Maryland, was tragically cut short in Oxon Hill. Prince George's County Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1400 block of Southern Avenue at approximately 3:05 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Keister suffering from gunshot wounds. He was a male victim.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died a short time later.
Investigators began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Preliminarily, they determined that the incident was not a random act of violence. The investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from a robbery attempt that occurred during a drug transaction. As they delved deeper into the case, detectives were able to identify two suspects in connection with Keister's death. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
Within a week of the shooting, the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit announced the arrests of two men. Diare Caldwell, 22, of Oxon Hill, and Darin Moore Jr., 22, of Bowie, were taken into custody at Caldwell's apartment. Both men were charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. Following their arrest, they were held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
