In the early evening of April 11, 2024, the quiet streets of Oxon Hill, Maryland, were disturbed by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were dispatched to the area of Neptune Avenue and Audrey Lane following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man lying outside, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Tyrone Avent of Oxon Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives immediately began an investigation into the fatal shooting. For months, the case remained under investigation, with authorities offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment. The preliminary stages of the investigation suggested that the suspect and Avent were acquainted with each other.
The breakthrough in the case came in October 2024, when detectives identified a suspect. Javon Moore, a 23-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was taken into custody in connection with Avent's death. Moore was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related offenses. Following his arrest, he was placed in the custody of the Department of Corrections. The investigation revealed that Moore allegedly shot Avent before fleeing the scene of the crime.
