In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in May 2014, the life of a young man from Washington D.C. was tragically cut short in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Samuel Cheadle, a 20-year-old male, was discovered by Prince George's County patrol officers who were drawn to the 4900 block of Maury Place by the sound of gunshots at approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 7th. Upon their arrival, they found Cheadle suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Residing in the 1000 block of 14th Street in Southeast Washington, Cheadle's death was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an immediate investigation by the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit. In the days following the shooting, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to his death, actively seeking a motive and searching for any individual or individuals who may have been involved.
In an effort to generate leads, the police department publicly appealed for information from the community. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case.
